Weather Map Gizmo
*Note: All temperatures are displayed in fahrenheit.
Warm Up: The wind is blowing at 25 knots and there is 25% cloud cover. Also, the wind is blowing from the northeast.
Activity A:
1.
a. I noticed that as station B moved towards the high pressure system, the winds picked up and became a lot stronger. However, as it got extremely close the winds decreased and by the time it got to the center, it was only blowing at 10 knots.
b. I think it is a high pressure system because when station B moved toward it, the winds picked up. When a low pressure system meets a high pressure system, it creates wind.
2. There is no cloud cover over the high pressure system.
3. See picture below

4.
a. The wind pattern is counter clockwise.
b. The strongest wind is 52 miles per hour and it is found NW of the high pressure system.

Activity B:
1.
a. The air pressure is lower so there is not a lot of wind. Also, there is room in the atmosphere for clouds.
b. It is called a low pressure system because the air is less dense and the molecules are more spread apart.
2. Near the low pressure system, there is about a 25-50% cloud cover.
3. See picture below.

Activity C:

1. See picture below
2. One thing that all the cold fronts have in common is that there is very strong winds where the cold air meets the warm air because of the pressure change. Another thing that they all have in common is snow and cloudiness.
3.
3.
Clouds form behind the cold front because in the warm air behind it, the clouds are able to condense and develop quickly.
4. See picture below
4. See picture below
5. I noticed that the wind always comes from the SW and that light showers always accompany warm fronts.
6.
Clouds form in front of a warm front because the moment the warm air meets the cold, it condenses to form clouds.
7. As a warm front passes, light rain is experienced along with warmer temperatures and higher humidity. In a cold front, there are sever storms and colder temperatures
